'Furnace Mountain' Red 2022

Produced by 8 Chains North Winery · Waterford, Virginia

Tasting notes

Furnace Mountain Red offers rich blue fruit and subtle tobacco on the nose. The palate layers dark plum, black currant, and raspberry with hints of vanilla from extended oak aging. Well-rounded tannins lead to a smooth, structured finish, creating a balanced, versatile blend with depth and elegance.

Winemaking notes. Each varietal fermented separately before aging 18 months in 50% new and 50% neutral American oak. After blending, the wine returned to barrel for an additional eight months to integrate tannins and texture.

Vintage notes. The 2022 season delivered beautifully balanced fruit, with steady early growth and a warm, sun-filled summer that encouraged depth and concentration across all varietals. Ample ripeness, vibrant aromatics, and naturally structured tannins defined the harvest, providing ideal components for a Bordeaux-style blend.
