‘Unité’ Reserve 2021
Produced by Cana Vineyards & Winery · Middleburg, Virginia
Tasting notes
The aroma is complex, mingling dark black raspberry and black currant with touches of violet, black tea, cacao, and tarragon, all under warm oak. The palate is plush and round, with deep black fruit and toasted wood supported by velvety, structured tannins.
Winemaking notes. Unité Reserve represents the best lots from Cana’s estate vineyard. Fermented in open-top fermenters with 10 to 14 days of maceration and full malolactic fermentation. Aged 17 months in French oak, 60% new, then sterile filtered prior to bottling.
Vintage notes. Summer 2021 was cool with some intense storms, but a hot and dry September carried the vineyard to a very satisfying harvest, particularly in the Petit Verdot. The 2019 vintage of Unité Reserve won the 2022 Virginia Governor’s Cup.
