Lost Creek Winery

Cabernet Franc 2021

Produced by Lost Creek Winery · Leesburg, Virginia

Tasting notes

Aromas of dark cherry, violets, and subtle baking spice lead into a focused palate of red and black fruit, savory herbs, and restrained oak. Medium-bodied with fine tannins and fresh acidity, the finish is long and precise.

Winemaking notes. Sourced primarily from the Meridian Ridge Vineyard with additional fruit from nearby Round Hill. Fermented in small one-ton lots using a mix of yeasts, including native fermentations. Post-fermentation maceration lasted one to two weeks, followed by native malolactic fermentation and minimal sulfite use. Cellared 20 months in 100% French oak (25% new).

Vintage notes. The 2021 growing season in western Loudoun County allowed Cabernet Franc to ripen fully while retaining natural acidity. Fruit harvested in late September showed excellent balance and concentration, benefiting from cooler mountain influences and extended hang time.

Accolades. 92 points, James Suckling.
