Merlot 2021 — bottle shot
October One Vineyard

Merlot 2021

Produced by October One Vineyard · Bluemont, Virginia

Tasting notes

Aromatic and fruit-forward, showing bright red cherry and red berry notes from the first pour. The palate is medium-bodied and lush, with clean fruit expression and a gentle hint of oak tannin on the finish. Fresh, approachable, and crowd-pleasing.

Winemaking notes. Destemmed fruit was fermented in bins with a warm fermentation and a ten-day maceration to extract color and flavor while preserving softness. After fermentation, the wine was aged 12 months in 75% neutral French oak and 25% Acacia barrels.

Vintage notes. The 2021 season featured a relatively dry spring and warm summer that encouraged early ripening. Moderately wet conditions later in the season shortened hang time, resulting in Merlot with bright aromatics, balanced structure, and clean fruit expression.
